I decided to apply for a job in St. Paul mainly because I didn't want to end up working somewhere like Minot, ND or Gillette, WY. I was (and still am) in love with the mountains of Colorado, the canyons of Arizona, and the rainforests of Oregon, but I figured at least the Twin Cities would provide me with things to do and people to meet.
But then I got here. I started hearing people talk about Boundary Waters, and the North Shore, and the Mississippi River. The more I started reading about the state the more I started to realize that I was going to like it here.
I made my first adventure to the North Shore in May and loved it. I come from a place where lakes are not blue and you don’t swim in rivers because they are both muddy and swift. Lake Superior however is stunning. It is a shade of blue that I have never seen in a lake. Split Rock Light House was a stunning tower on a cliff overlooking the lake. And I couldn't help but get nostalgic thinking about all of the ships she has guided over the years.
I am so excited to live here and can't wait to see what the rest of the state has to offer. In the meantime, get out and go explore your backyard. I've been lucky to have some pretty beautiful ones over the past few years.
